DOT Providing $30 Million Towards Flood Repair

by Staff

Caltrans and four U.S. federal land management agencies will use the funding as a down payment toward repair work on the damage caused by the recent storms.

After a serious bout of flooding caused by multiple storms, many roads, bridges, and highways throughout the state of California have been severely damaged. To remedy this, the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) announced they will be providing $29.4 million in "quick release" Emergency relief funds to pay the down payments on repairs.

$10.2 million of this money will be given to the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) to then be distributed to local transportation agencies to help in repairing Federal-aid highways. The FHWA is also providing $19.2 million to the National Park Service, the U.S. Forest Service, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and the Bureau of Reclamation to be put towards federal land repair.

"These extreme storms have disrupted millions of lives and livelihoods, with serious damage to key infrastructure that Californians count on," said U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. "The emergency funding we are announcing today will help California remove debris, rebuild roads, restore vital transportation corridors and strengthen its resilience in the face of future extreme weather events."
