All the Advantages

The advantages of using colored stones in your landscaping are endless. Aside from the obvious appeal of the brilliant colors, you are supporting the environment by using a recycled product. Only available in a 3/4-inch stone, which makes them heavy enough to not wash away in the rain or blow away when you use a leaf blower. This also eliminates bare spots in your landscaping where weed growth begins. Also, stones do not absorb heat that can burn plants, they keep the ground temperature cool and the moisture content high so plants can grow naturally. Wood mulch is great for keeping weed growth down, but it is like putting out a buffet for insects and termites to feed on. Pest control companies have been recommending placing decorative stones near a home instead of feeding termites with wood mulch. Lastly, you don?EUR??,,????'?????<

All of the colorants used to make these versatile decorative stones are environmentally safe. The colorants are derived from naturally occurring pigments specially formulated to be completely non-toxic to animals, plants, or even people. This also helps when people want to place them in the bottom of their fishponds for a tropical look. This is one of the most eye-catching applications of the product and the fish will be not be harmed. Just let the filter clean out all the dust before returning your fish to their new tropical paradise.

Above & Below: Make sure you use mesh weed stopper which allows for water to pass through the layer and get to plants that need it. Plastic weed stoppers do not allow for water to pass through. The water collects on the surface, which causes the blocker to rot and decay leaving you with no protection.

Easy Installation

The installation of is relatively simple. Once you have chosen the location where you would like to put your stones, you begin by preparing the area.

Step 1 ?EUR??,,????'?????<
First remove any existing weeds by digging them out or spraying them with a weed killer. Next, make sure that the area is perfectly level so when the stones are put down, they look more precise and professional.

Step 2 ?EUR??,,????'?????<
Decide what type of border to use around this area or to separate the colors should you choose to use more than one color in your design. The problem is that it will look great with any type of border around it, so to pick one is difficult. But different people like different things.

If you like a natural border, you can do many things. You can simply place small natural boulders side-by-side around the area or in-between the colors. This adds a nice natural look to the landscape and really makes the colors stand out. Another natural border one can use is a flat stacking stone or fieldstone. For this one, make sure the ground is perfectly level and lay the wall stones end to end around the area. Then simply stack the fieldstones one on top of the other until the desired height is reached. For larger walls, you may need to fill in the area with dirt or topsoil so you can easily see the color from any angle. One can also use fieldstone to separate colors in the landscape by laying them down end to end in place either horizontally or vertically.

There are several different artificial borders that can be used as an edging either around the stones or to separate the colors from eachother. One of the newer and more popular choices is a plastic brick edge. This is an ?EUR??,,????'?????<

Step 3 ?EUR??,,????'?????<

Once the borders are in place, make sure that no weeds will grow through your design and ruin it. For this I always recommend mesh weed stopper sheeting. The mesh allows for water to pass through the layer and get to plants that need it. Plastic weed stoppers do not allow for water to pass through and the water collects on the surface, which causes the blocker to rot and decay so you are left with no protection. Most weed stoppers will tell you one layer is enough to stop 99-percent of weeds, but I always like to use two or three layers to make sure no weeds get through. To install the weed blocker, simply roll the fabric over your desired area and cut it down to size and around any plants. Most weed stoppers are sold with plastic stakes to hold the mesh down and make sure that it does not move when tampered with. When the weed stopper is down, you are ready to add your rocks.

Step 4 ?EUR??,,????'?????<

Finally, you are ready to add some color to your landscaping. The stones in the bag may be wet due to stockpiling, so make sure to wear gloves when spreading the stones. Simply cut open your bag and spread it out in the area you want it to go. Repeat this step until you have a covering of about two to three inches of stone and your entire area is filled in to your liking. Once your area is covered, you are going to want to level off the stones to give it that manicured look. For this you can use a rake, a shovel, or just do it by hand. Due to the fact that the stones may be wet when you lay them down, you only want to do the installation on a dry and sunny day to allow for the colors to dry thoroughly and permanently adhere to the stones. Wait at least 24 hours for the colorants to dry completely.

Step 5 ?EUR??,,????'?????<

Just like any man made product, the sun can fade the color of your rocks. To prevent this from happening, you must protect them. Just as you would seal your pavers, brick, and cement to protect them; you want to seal your design. We have specially formulated our own brand of sealer that can be used on concrete, brick, and pavers, but is specifically designed to protect Zorock Decorative Stones. Once your stones are completely dry, pour our sealer into a pump sprayer bottle. Simply spray the sealer generously over the stones. It will not harm plants or animals, so don?EUR??,,????'?????<
