Due to the efforts of the International Dark-Sky Association Colorado Chapter, the state governor, Jared Polis, has declared June 2019 as "Dark Sky Month." According to IDA's website, this proclamation shows that the state government "recognizes dark skies as a valuable resource in Colorado and identifies light pollution as an economic, environmental, and cultural issue worth addressing." The proclamation was developed as a result of IDA Colorado's "Bringing Back Dark Skies" event at the Fiske Planetarium in Boulder, when a staff member from the governor's office approached dark sky advocate Richard O'Brien, to learn more about the cause. The event will occur again on June 12th at the same location. The chapter is currently working to empower members and strengthen their impact through messaging and social media, and to establish more International Dark Sky Places in Colorado.
