CLCA-Supported Assembly Bill 332 Signed into Law

Landfills Could No Longer Accept Treated Wood

Currently, AB 332 was signed into law allowing treated wood to once again be disposed of without a stop-gap variance program.

At the start of 2021, California Governor Newsom vetoed Senate Bill 68 which meant that landfills were not able to accept treated wood waste which made disposal more difficult, expensive and environmentally unsustainable. Soon thereafter, California Landscape Contractors Association (CLCA) announced that a stop-gap variance program, in partnership with the California Department of Toxic Substance Control, would allow landfills variances.

This meant that landfills could receive treated wood waste once again while CLCA supported Assembly Bill 332 which would mean that variances wouldn't be necessary.

AB 332 made it through the California Assembly and State Senate and was then signed into law by Governor Newsom and went into effect immediately.
