Central Park

Chesterfield, Missouri
by PlayCore

The Chesterfield Parks, Recreation, and Arts Department received a Municipal Parks Grant to resurface the playground at Central Park.

The Playgrounds Issue of Landscape Architect and Specifier News saw many firms submit their projects for feature consideration. Central Park is one of several great projects we are excited to showcase on LandscapeArchitect.com.

The resurfacing replaced an engineered wood mulch material that required regular replenishment, inspection, and maintenance. While it met all safety standards, it was difficult for users with any physical limitations and was also difficult for parents with wheeled strollers. The new playground has a rubberized surface that replaced the existing mulch from the entire playground encompassed by the concrete border. The rubberized playground is cleaner, provides easier accessibility, and is a better playing experience for all children, eliminating trip hazards caused by mulch for children with walkers and wheelchairs and offering better year-round use.
