BYU Tops the NALP Collegiate Competition
More than 770 Students Competed

BYU placed first for the second year in a row in overall competitive events and received a scholarship from the NALP foundation. Cal Poly Pomona took second place after placing eighth last year and Michigan State University placed third after placing second last year.

The National Association of Landscape Professionals hosted its annual National Collegiate Landscape Competition March 14 - 17.

Brigham Young took first place in overall competitive events and received $5,000 from STIHL Inc. Cal Poly Pomona took second place and Michigan State University came in third.

The competition was held at Alamance Community College in Graham, North Carolina, with more than 770 students from 61 college teams and two high school FFA teams competing.

Events included: tree climbing, hardscape installation, wood construction, plant identification, sales presentation, interior / exterior design, irrigation troubleshooting, skid steer, 3D exterior landscape design, personnel management and small engine repair.

Individual winners received scholarships from the NALP foundation:
• First place - Marco Crosland of BYU
• Second place - Tyler Gilson of Michigan State University
• Third place - McKenna Rowles of Cuyahoga Community College

In addition to the competition, students were also given the opportunity to meet with recruiters from more than 100 companies at the career fair, reportedly securing jobs and internships.
