The National Collegiate Landscape Competition, NALP's annual gathering for landscape students, took place from March 15-18 at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. More than 750 students from 61 college teams and two FFA (Future Farmers of America) high school teams participated in 29 individual and team competitions, including tree climbing, hardscape installation, plant identification, irrigation troubleshooting, skid steer, small engine repair and more. BYU Provo took first place overall, with Michigan State University in second and Colorado State University in third. The individual winners were Tyler Gilson of Michigan State University in first, Jeremy Garner of Rochester Community & Technical College in second, and Steve Boot of Niagara Parks Commission School of Horticulture in third. BYU Provo continued its winning streak as Greg Jolley, associate professor of Plant and Wildlife Sciences took home the Outstanding Educator of the Year award. Next year's competition is set for March 13-17, 2018, at Alamance Community College in Graham, N.C. For more information about the competition, visit www.LandscapeCompetition.org.
