President Biden's proposed budget for the 2025 fiscal year sets aside $3.57 billion for the National Park System, featuring investments in employment and sustainability.

The Biden administration recently submitted their budget proposal for the 2025 fiscal year to Congress, including $3.57 billion set aside for the National Park System (NPS). Stated objectives include strengthening tribal co-ownership, supporting new sites that preserve American history, and bolstering the Outdoor Recreation Legacy Program that provides recreational opportunities in low-income urban communities.

NPS Director Chuck Sams said, "The budget addresses critical challenges like supporting a strong workforce; strengthening climate resilience in parks and communities; sharing the complete story of America; and ensuring access to parks for generations to come."
The NPS released a statement following this announcement outlining the amounts proposed for each aspect of park management, including increased housing for NPS employees to promote retention, regular cyclical maintenance to prevent costly future repairs, youth corps programs to train and equip young people, and park resource assessment to reveal vulnerabilities to climate change. The budget also sets aside funds for investment in information technology systems and an additional $13 million for the Centennial Challenge, which provides Federal funds on a 1:1 matching basis from funds secured by NPS partners.
As Biden submitted his budget a full month after the usual deadline, Congress now has only five weeks for both the House and the Senate to approve a final Budget Resolution.
