Pearl Park at Cypress View; Los Angeles, CAMeeting the need for meaningful open space and affordable housing in Los Angeles, Bridge Housing and the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles created Cypress View, a community shaped by access, comfort, and connection to nature. Planted paseos, residential garden courts, and Pearl Park establish a landscape that supports everyday life through shade, water, and planting. The park creates a shared landscape for the Watts neighborhood, offering gardens of varied scale, amenities, and programs that support daily life and community health. Great Wall Winery; Qinhuangdo Province, PRCLocated on a hillside site in Qinhuangdao Province, Great Wall Winery is China's largest wine producer utilizing traditional European winemaking techniques. Hillside gardens and intimate overlooks welcome guests arriving at the five-star hotel designed by Johnson Fain, while planted terraces frame views outward from guest rooms toward the surrounding vineyard. Stone and boulders excavated during construction were repurposed into dry-laid retaining walls, reducing material waste while expressing the rugged character of the site. Cobble-paved arrival courts and a refined VIP motor court with water features create distinct public and private arrival experiences. Bold landforms, natural materials, and restrained detailing frame the Visitor Center and Hotel to match the quality of the wine. Photo Credit: Johnson Fain

Citrus Commons; Sherman Oaks, CACitrus Commons transforms a formerly underutilized site along the LA River corridor into a layered, ecologically grounded environment that supports mental and physical well-being. The landscape design provides layered, immersive encounters with native ecologies, drawing directly from the LA River Master Plan. Walkways, ramps, seat steps, and seat walls are integrated with the shade of canopy trees and diverse native plantings to support physical recovery from the pace of city life and the heat of the day, providing spaces for social interaction, individual reflection, or simply breathing more deeply, ultimately offering daily access to the calming rhythms of nature in the midst of city life. Marilyn Hawley Hilton Schoolyard; Santa Monica, CAThe Marilyn Hawley Hilton Schoolyard is the final piece of the campus master plan for St. Monica Parish, one of the largest and most active parishes in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. With a generous grant from the Hilton Foundation, the project redesigned a 130-space interior parking lot that for decades doubled as a campus "quad" and play area for the 850-plus TK-12 students, teachers, and staff. Instead of being a parking lot used as a schoolyard, it is now a schoolyard that also functions as a parking lot. BORDER creates award-winning environments anchored in principles of restorative landscapes, focusing on the relationships between people and nature, past and future, vision and execution.
