A biophilic city is a place where nature is celebrated, and a multispecies community thrives. Few prioritize nature or recognize the essential role of planning that deems the natural world paramount. This American Planning Association (APA) study instead "explores how biophilic planning and design supports human well-being, ecological health, and sustainable, vibrant cities" while diving into the science of biophilia and drawing up solutions and tools that demonstrate how nature can be heavily integrated into the planning process.

This style of planning creates opportunities for more integration that crafts a flourishing community, diversity within ecosystems, and sustainability even within growing populations. Biophilic cities represent a network of partner cities and the prolific practice that nature is put front and center.
