ALCC is a trade association serving Colorado's landscape community. ALCC also provides useful information to homeowners, property managers, urban/suburban dwellers, rural landowners and passionate gardeners statewide.
For its 2018 Day of Service project, ALCC's Denver Chapter completed the final phase of a three-year endeavor to complete an outdoor learning laboratory at Green Mountain High School in Lakewood. The outdoor lab helps students in the Academy Agriculture Pathway program gain hands-on skills related to horticulture and landscaping. ALCC's Landscape Career Pathways Program, in a coordinated effort with Colorado Community College System, creates partnerships with high schools throughout the state to expose students to the variety of industry employment opportunities and helps them learn skills so they are prepared to begin careers right out of high school.
The ELITE Awards recognized some of the Colorado landscape industry's best companies and projects. Pictured are Zak George Landscaping (The ELITE Award for Design/Build, Project under $200,000) and the team from Colorado Stoneworks Landscaping (The ELITE Award for Customer Service).
ALCC, in conjunction with DBC Irrigation Supply, offered four-week Irrigation Boot Camp sessions in March and April to train new people for the industry. The intensive sessions included 48 total hours of training over the course of four weeks.
Casey DeField, 2018 Green Mountain High School (GMHS) grad, became the first Career Pathways graduate to enter the pipeline to become an Ag/Ed teacher when she entered Colorado State University this fall. When she started high school, DeField's goal was to become an attorney. Now her end goal is to return to GMHS to work with her former teacher and mentor, Courtney Mayo, and Principal Colleen Owens to build the program that includes horticulture and landscape classes.
As seen in LC/DBM magazine, December 2018.
