ASLA advocates for the WISE Act to increase nature-based solutions in water infrastructure funding.

The American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) is urging Congress to pass the Water Infrastructure Sustainability and Efficiency (WISE) Act introduced by Representative Nikema Williams (GA). This bill aims to enhance nature-based solutions in water infrastructure projects by increasing the allocation of funds under the Clean Water State Revolving Fund.

Torey Carter-Conneen, CEO of ASLA, emphasizes the significance of strategic investment in addressing water quality, stormwater management, flood mitigation, and drought planning through strategies involving landscape architects. He states, "With strategic investment, we can address water quality, stormwater management, flood mitigation, and drought planning with proven strategies designed by landscape architects."

ASLA's advocacy for the WISE Act aligns with its broader efforts to secure funding for water infrastructure projects. In its budget request letter to the Biden-Harris Administration, ASLA recommended increased funding for Clean Water State Revolving Funds (CWSRF), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) programs, Chesapeake Bay restoration efforts, and the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI).
