2019 Chapter Report

Jared Merz, the chapter's Awareness Chair, represented the Oklahoma Chapter in New Orleans at the 2019 PR Awareness Summit, which had a representative from each state ASLA chapter in attendance to discuss topics relating to World Landscape Architecture Month, Chapter Awards and spreading public awareness

The chapter ended last year with The OKASLA East vs. West Ugly Sweater Bowling Classic at Dust Bowl Lanes and Lounge in December. Creating successful shade gardens was the topic of the Oklahoma Horticultural Society's Annual Meetings this year. Steve Huddleston, senior horticulturist at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden, served as keynote speaker for both locations, which were the Helmerich Horticulture Center in Tulsa of February 9 and the Oklahoma County OSU Cooperative Extension Office on February 10. On February 28, the OSU Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture held an Alumni Party, which was a fundraiser for the Landscape Management Scholarship Fund. The event took place at Johnny Carino's in Tulsa. Leading Transformations was theme for the 2019 OKASLA State Conference, which was held in September.
