2019 Chapter Report

At the 20th Annual Pink Flamingo event, scholarships were awarded.
NVASLA president, Dave Farley, honored Autumn Schneider with the President's Award.
And fun was had by all.

At the first luncheon of the year, George Blevins, here with NVASLA President, Dave Farley, gave a presentation titled, "Completing Streets for Better Communities," chronicling the evolution of streets and how they affect the community and its citizens.
Part of the group of 13 from the Northern Section of NVASLA that gathered in downtown Reno for a tour of low impact development projects.
John L'Etoile, PLA Landscape Architect Supervisor Nevada Department of Transportation, here with NVASLA president, David Farley on the right, was the guest speaker for a luncheon where he reviewed the history of L&A on Nevada state highways.
The University of Nevada Las Vegas student chapter of NVASLA participated in PARKing day, giving out 70 plants to passersby at their location on their campus.

Profile: The mission of this chapter is the continuous education of its members, the public and the profession and to promote the stewardship of the environment. NVASLA provides opportunities for professional networking, continuing education and promotion of the profession through mentorships and scholarships for students. It is led by an executive committee that organizes committees and volunteers to achieve the mission of the organization.

Highlights of the South Section included starting to offer LACES credits, which will soon be a requirement for license renewal in Nevada, at their luncheons this year, a movie night in January at the Eclipse Theater Las Vegas where Five Seasons, The Gardens of Piet Oudolf was screened, a Legislature Meet and Greet in Carson City, participation in Advocacy Day, May 2, in Washington D.C., the annual Golf Tournament May 3rd at the Sienna Golf Club, the State Board Meeting in Las Vegas, the Ex Comm Retreat and the Pink Flamingo with associated Landscape Architecture Project Awards in Las Vegas.

Some of the notable events the North Section of NVASLA participated in 2019 included a movie showing of Five Seasons at the University of Nevada, Reno in January, the Legislature Meet and Greet in Carson City, a LID tour in March coordinated by former section chair Barb Santner, a guided tree tour of the May Arboretum, the annual Bocce Ball event, a mixer in July with the Sierra Chapter and an Ex Comm Retreat.
