John Grove, PLA, ASLA, is a masterful designer whose work reveals the profound connection between landscape, culture, and craft. Over more than 30 years, he has created a distinguished body of work across the United States, from national parks and cultural institutions to private landscapes, each defined by a deep sensitivity to place and a commitment to enduring beauty. As Partner and Principal at Reed Hilderbrand, Grove has led more than 80 commissions, shaping landscapes that seamlessly weave natural systems and human experience. His design process-grounded in close listening, hand drawing, and long-term collaboration-sets him apart. He approaches each project as both an artistic and cultural act, translating history, ecology, and community narratives into spaces that feel timeless and immersive. Among his most significant works is the Tekakapimek Visitor Contact Station at Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument, developed in close collaboration with Wabanaki Nations. The project respectfully integrates Indigenous knowledge into the landscape, creating a powerful and inclusive visitor experience. At Theodore Roosevelt Park in New York City, Grove reimagined a historic urban park to better serve contemporary life while preserving its cherished character. His work on the Beck House in Dallas demonstrates exceptional technical and artistic skill, transforming a modernist landmark into a richly layered landscape over more than a decade of stewardship. Grove's projects are known for their clarity, restraint, and meticulous detailing, making complex challenges feel effortless.
