The American Society of Landscape Architects has recognized those of Latinx descent during National Hispanic Heritage Month. Several students have won in a program that honors the best landscape architecture work from students around the country. The various categories in the program include: general and residential design, research, analysis and planning, collaboration and community service.

Nicole Rivera-Ramos received the Award of Excellence in the "analysis and planning" category for her project that focused on ways for Puerto Rican communities to improve on self-sufficiency and food production. She attends the State University of New York, College of Environment Science and Forestry.

A team of students at the University of Texas received the Honor Award in the communications category. The team worked with the Planning Institute of Saltillo (IMPLAN) to improve the wellbeing of citizens through the development of better public spaces and urban guidelines in Saltillo, Mexico.

Another Honor Award was given to a group of students at the University of Washington. The team designed a community garden in Rijeka, Croatia, intended as a restorative place for youth, the blind, and the elderly who have disabilities. This project was recognized in the general design category.
