American Green Zone Alliance (AGZA)

2024 - A Year in Review
by AGZA

The American Green Zone Alliance (AGZA) was officially formed in 2014 and is made up of people from all facets of the landscape industry as well as environmental scientists and mechanical and electrical engineers.

AGZA has established a number of certifications that help the industry remain profitable and productive when implementing battery electric technologies, robotics, new software, and taking ecological approaches to land care. We work with governments, private industry, and nonprofits who value our services and expertise.

Notable AGZA Green Zone Certifications
400 Prologis buildings in the greater Chicago market. Prologis teamed up with their first electric operating vendor, Four Seasons Lawn Service & Landscaping, Inc., AGZA, and several AGZA Field Tested Certified (AFTC) equipment manufacturers to showcase the achievement at their Technology Expo, where everyone involved was acknowledged.

Pasadena City College - Congratulations to Pasadena City College (PCC) for achieving AGZA Green Zone Certification Level 2 for their entire operations and campus properties. The accomplishment was commemorated this summer with PCC's President Dr. Gomez, PCC Board Members, South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD) Vice Chair Michael Cacciotti, managers and staff from facilities, and the PCC student body. AGZA Founder & President Dan Mabe was present to personally present PCC their AGZA Level 2 Green Zone certificate. PCC has its sight set on improving their AGZA Green Zone score to Level 3 in year 2025. Updates on that progress soon.

City of Glendale - This year, the City of Glendale, California became the largest AGZA Certified Green Zone municipality in the United States. Glendale values "setting the example" by transitioning their entire city operations to AGZA Green Zone Level 1 certification. All two-stroke handheld lawn and garden tools were phased out and replaced with battery electric equipment from STIHL USA and Husqvarna Group. The city has already started to work towards AGZA Level 2, whereby all routine mowing is required to be done with electric technologies.

AGZA Bilingual Outreach - A large portion of the landscape maintenance industry's frontline tool-using workforce speaks Spanish as a first language. This is why AGZA formats all our workshops, classroom and field sessions, and online learning materials in both English and Spanish. We can also accommodate Portuguese, Chinese, and Korean, if needed. In addition to communicating effectively with our industry workforce, AGZA wants to ensure frontline workers are recognized for their daily contributions to maintaining aesthetically pleasing, well-manicured properties in our communities and the positive outcomes this provides for our society.

AGZA Continues Partnership with the South Coast AQMD - AGZA and the South Coast AQMD continue to partner on air pollution awareness and identifying resources and solutions exist to clean up the air in Southern California - one of the most air quality-challenged regions of the Unites States. The two organizations provide field demonstrations on battery electric lawn and garden equipment and educate the public on how they can receive price reductions on lawn and garden tools, electric bikes, transportation, and furnaces through various programs the district has in place.
