Pre-Bid Soil Testing Webinar Review

Cliff Ruth, Horticulturist
by Rebecca Radtke, LASN

Explore all the steps of pre-bid soil testing while earning CEUs OnDemand.

LandscapeWebinars.org and retired Field Emeritus at North Carolina State University, Cliff Ruth presented a live and recorded seminar on April 10 on pre-bid soil testing which included examples on texture, nutrient testing, soil analysis, and calculating fertilizer needs.

Titled, "Pre-Bid Soil Testing: Nutrient Analysis Part 2" this session concluded the two part-series by Ruth and further explained the full pre-bid process including the scientific approaches. He explained from his prospective and experience to further assist attendees in best understanding not only the testing importance before work begins but how to further plan a design to combat any issues.

OnDemand attendees can take each session to learn about the soil testing process and earn two LA/CES HSW, ISA, APLD, and PGMS CEUs. Ruth does an excellent job explaining the process and applying solutions to a variety of issues from perc and texture testing to nutrient analysis.

Webinar Description:
Attendees would learn the importance of conducting the last of three soil tests that they should do prior to bidding on a landscape job or during the initial design phase of a project. This soil test has to do with nutrient and pH analysis and how a landscaper or landscape maintenance person can use this information in the pre-bid process to better determine the number of products) that they will need to purchase and apply as well as how these nutrients may impact long term plant health.

Learning Objectives:
1. Process and purpose of Soil Testing for Nutrient and pH
2. What to expect from a soil test
3. How to use these tests in pre-bid decision making
