A Farm-Themed Adventure For All
Thanksgiving Point Curiosity Farms by Laura Khoueir, Landscape Structures International
Thanksgiving Point's Curiosity Farms Playground is where wide-open spaces meet innovative play. As part of a historical museum complex in Lehi, Utah, the playground encourages children of all abilities to learn while they play. A custom tractor structure captures the spirit of farm life, offering plenty of opportunities for kids ages 5 to 12 to climb, crawl, and pretend to drive.
Built into the side of a hill, this multi-level, windmill-inspired recreational area provides opportunities for climbing, sliding, swinging, and imaginative play, all while capturing the spirit of a working farm.
Designed to reflect the region's agricultural heritage, the new playground incorporates natural colors to create a seamless connection to the surrounding mountainscape. Shade structures provide coverage as visitors navigate the Fortress?(R) Multi-Climber and its asymmetrical shapes and unique angles. Many of these play systems allow children at every skill level to find the right balance of challenge and fun.
All swings, ramped structures, climbing nets, and sensory play opportunities were provided by Landscape Structures International and chosen for this project to promote active and inclusive play.

A must-visit destination in the heart of the Utah Valley, Thanksgiving Point is known for its world-renowned Museum of Ancient Life, the breathtaking Ashton Gardens, and the interactive Museum of Natural Curiosity. This year, the rebranded Curiosity Farms exhibit added to Thanksgiving Point's legacy of innovation and fun with an inclusive playground that blends imaginative play with functional design and nods to Utah's rich agricultural roots. This new playground is more than just a place to run around - it's a space where children of all abilities can explore and learn through play.
Farm-Inspired Fun The Curiosity Farms playground brings the charm of the countryside to life with its innovative, farm-themed design featuring custom silo and windmill play equipment. The centerpiece - a towering, windmill-inspired play structure - evokes the rural charm of a working farm. This structure delivers thrilling heights to explore while overlooking a shaded area. From the windmill, users race down a sprout-colored slide to ground level, where there are opportunities for active exploration along the turf-covered hill and net climbers.
For more imaginative play, users can explore the hillside slides and climbers, an interactive tractor, and many other features. Best of all, SkyWays® shade structures cover more than half the space to keep visitors comfortable and thereby extend play time.
Inclusive Play for Everyone Inclusivity is at the heart of the playground's design, ensuring that every child - regardless of ability - can share in the fun. With carefully selected equipment and play features, this space raises the standard for inclusive play. First, the We-Go-Swing® provides a shared experience for all children as what is considered the first fully inclusive swing in the industry. Ramped entry brings everyone to the center of the action, also allowing them to get a bird's-eye view of the site. Fox Den Hangouts provide cozy spaces for quiet moments or imaginative role play. The hillside slides and climbers are accessed via a concrete path, as the Rollerslide Exit Bench provides a more comfortable exit process. Throughout the playground, there are opportunities for kids to engage their sensory systems with net climbers, multi-user swings, balance challenges, and much more.
Where Play Meets Learning This playground is more than just a place for fun; it's part of the larger Curiosity Farms exhibit - a working farm dedicated to showcasing agricultural advancements. As families explore the farm, they'll encounter hands-on experiences that connect them with the land, animals, and crops that have shaped Utah's heritage. The playground complements these educational experiences, offering a space where users can interact with farm-inspired structures and create their own adventures.
A Family Destination Thanksgiving Point's inclusive playground is designed to be a gathering place for families and a hub of activity for children of all ages. From the towering silo climber to the shaded play zones, every detail has been thoughtfully crafted to spark joy and foster connections. Whether visitors are learning about modern agriculture, exploring the exhibits, or letting their little ones burn off energy, the new playground is a highlight that will keep families coming back again and again.
