Formerly known as 888 South Hope, the new apartment building tower in downtown LA is now called 888 at Grand Hope Park. At the ground floor, the 34-story tower consists of 6,300 square feet of natural gray broom finish sidewalks with a granite paver band and 5,300 square feet of hexagonal precast concrete pavers at the vehicular drive entrance to an existing parking structure. The highlight of this job is what was created on top of that existing, eight-story parking garage, which prior to this project was 30,000 square feet of unused space. The plan was to create a unique and lively amenity deck for the tenants of the new apartment building. Some of the amenities at the private deck include an outdoor cinema, resort pool & cabanas, woodlands forest, lawn games, dining grove with BBQs, and an enclosed dog park area. This private oasis consists of 15,300 square feet of integral color and natural gray paving with light sand textured finish and heavy exposed aggregate finish, both achieved with a top surface retarder. There are also over 1,700 linear feet of natural, gray, cast-in-place concrete benches, walls, and curbs, all with a smooth trowel finish to contain all the lush planting areas and to provide seating throughout the park. Trademark used a blended 3,000 psi mix design with 50% pea gravel & 50% one-inch aggregate in combination with a shrinkage reducing admixture to help minimize cracking.
