A coalition of environmental organizations recently filed a notice of intent (NOI) to sue the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) due to the agency's failure to enforce the Regional Haze Rule set forth by the Clean Air Act.

 
The Regional Haze Rule was designed to protect national parks and wilderness from air pollution that reduces visibility. Haze impacts 90 percent of the country's national parks while air pollution from fossil fuels and other sources worsens community health, drives up healthcare costs, and makes it more difficult for adults to work and kids to learn and play.
39 states failed to submit their most recent haze plan to the EPA by July 31, 2021. Meanwhile, the EPA had until January 31, 2022 to release a formal finding that these states had failed to submit the requisite Regional Haze state implementation plan (SIP) but has not done so.
Meanwhile, 39 organizations joined the notice of intent to sue including 350 New Orleans, Coalition to Protect America's National Parks, and Montana Environmental Information Center to name a few.
