On August 10, the United States Senate passed the $1 trillion infrastructure bill, and it is believed that the President will sign it soon. Congress and the White House have been working towards a new infrastructure bill for months and have finally put together a bipartisan legislation. This bill is said to contain $110 billion for roads, bridges, and similar projects, $66 billion for passenger and freight rail, $65 billion for broadband, $55 billion for water systems, and $39 billion for public transit.

 

The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) applauds the passage of the infrastructure bill, and in a press release AASHTO executive director Jim Tymon stated, "AASHTO is grateful the Senate was able to work in a bipartisan way to pass this historic infrastructure legislation, which provides a robust funding increase for all modes of transportation."

Tymon went on to explain how the legislation authorities five years of funding for highways, transit, and other transportation. Furthermore, he recognized the importance of the formula-based bridge and electric vehicle infrastructure funding program created by the bill.
