The calling cards of gophers are the mounds of dirt they create. As the tunnel through your lawn or field, they use their front legs and teeth to push dirt up to the surface. Gopher mounds are 12 to 18 inches wide and four to six inches high. The soil is heaped up to one side around the tunnel entrance, which is one way to determine that you have gophers and not some other burrowing rodents. Gophers typically construct one to three mounds per day. Do not hesitate to begin the process of ridding yourself of these pesky invaders.
