Quail Botanical Gardens (QBG) in Encinitas, CA, is flushing with success over naming Julian Duval as Executive Director and CEO.

Duval's 14 years of experience opening the Indianapolis Zoo at its present White River State Park site, implementing the biome concept of simulating natural environments, and positioning the zoo for future accreditation as a botanical garden is timely for QBG, which is a newly privatized institution.

Duval will spearhead changes associated with developing a new management structure and seeking private support.

The 30-acre garden overlooking the Pacific has encouraged a wildlife in the natives garden, it has yet to become an accredited botanical garden and had no formal plan to establish a zoo before Duval arrived. Yet, the former co-host of the six-time Emmy-winning regional TV series "At The Zoo" said, "I expect that I'll incorporate some animal exhibition into the Quail Botanical Gardens, just as I've worked to include a variety of plants at the zoo."
