Learn techniques for Water Conservation

SAN DIEGO, CA

The predictions are out and unfortunately they don't look good for the green industry. Drought. With the promise of dry months in the near future, the art of Xeriscape planting is sure to be in high demand. The Water Conservation Garden in San Diego has designed a "hands-on", "back-yard" example of how Xeriscape concepts can be directly applicable to homeowners.

The seven key principles of Xeriscape gardening are broken down into three pedestrian path loops that offer educational exhibits. The Design loop focuses on items which should be completed before a landscape is installed. Exhibits show how to design for function and aesthetics, planting preparation, installation techniques, edible gardening, and planting to attract wildlife. The maintenance loop of the garden focuses on pruning, plant care, existing landscape rehabilitation and container gardening. Finally, the irrigation loop, is intended to show the vast range in irrigation equipment which is now available, and how it can be used efficiently in landscape situations.

Free seminars are offered to the public on the second Saturday of every month. For seminar offerings call 619-670-2292. The Garden also offers a comprehensive website (www.thegarden.org ) that can help answer any Xeriscape questions that you might have. Check it out!!
