Nationwide, all construction activities on projects over 1 acre of disturbance must comply with the stormwater runoff requirements of the Clean Water Act (CWA). The seminar will focus on activities of landscape contractors and explain CWA requirements, the penalties for non-compliance, what pollutants in stormwater runoff are of concern, principles of erosion and sediment control, correct installation of Best Management Practices (BMPs), strategies for landscape contractors to comply, how to understand a Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) which is required for projects over 1 acre, and how regulations will affect the future of the landscape industry including business opportunities for installing permanent post construction water quality measures such as grassy swales and permeable pavement.. Photos of jobsite successes and failures will be shown. 2 hours

Bio: David Franklin is a Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC) and has over 25 years experience in the landscape industry. Currently, he works for AEI-CASC Consulting as Environmental Project Manager performing construction site inspections, SWPPP development, and presenting training classes in California and Arizona. Mr. Franklin is an Executive Director of the Western Chapter of the International Erosion Control Association. AEI-CASC Consulting has offices throughout California and is instrumental in the stormwater industry, developing guidance manuals and providing compliance assistance services to the private and public sectors.
