Sports Turf Apprentice Will Get to Help Prepare the Field

The Toro Super Bowl Sports Turf Training Program is aimed at enhancing the skills of emerging sports turf professionals by providing hands-on experience with establishing and maintaining some of the best playing surfaces in the world.


The 15th annual Toro Super Bowl???(R)???AE???? Sports Turf Training Program will award a turfgrass science student the privilege of going to Houston, Texas, in January to be part of the National Football League grounds crew that gets the field at NRG Stadium in shape for the finale of the professional football season.

Beginning on January 28, the selected individual will work alongside NFL field director, Ed Mangan, and George Toma and the Super Bowl crew on turf maintenance, logo painting, field preparation for media day, halftime preparation and field cleanup leading for the game on February 5, 2017.

The manufacturing equipment company has been involved in helping prepare the stadium and practice fields for the Super Bowl since the beginning - back in 1967 before it had even received its current moniker and was known instead as the AFL-NFL World Championship Game.

In 2002, they partnered with the NFL to establish the current program that provides hands-on experience in sports field maintenance to help enhance the skills of emerging professionals.

To be considered for the program, applicants, who have to be enrolled in at least the second year of a two-year turf program, or in at least the junior year of a four-year turf program, must complete and submit an application form, a 500-word essay describing their professional goals, a reference and r????(R)???(C)sum????(R)???(C). Entries must be received by October 21, 2016.
