Women's Transportation Seminar International Leadership Program Meets with USDOT
70 Participants Attended Women in Transportation Panel

WTS International and the USDOT joined forces to provide 70 participants of WTS's Leadership Program with the opportunity to attend a panel led by five senior-level female executives in transportation.

WTS International, the association for the advancement of women in transportation, puts on two Leadership Programs per year for senior- or mid-level women in transportation. The 70 participants recently attended a panel at the U.S. Department of Transportation with Deputy Secretary Victor Mendez and five senior-level female executives.

Mendez welcomed the group and addressed the importance of women in the industry as well as encouraging students to pursue careers in transportation and having women in leadership positions. Women are underrepresented in the industry, and associations like WTS offers valuable programs to women in transportation.

After his welcoming remarks, the panel discussion commenced. Moderated by Lauren K. Brand, associate administrator for intermodal systems development at the Maritime Administration, the panel included Daphne Jefferson, deputy administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Information; Ellen Partridge, the Federal Transit Administration's chief counsel; Rebecca Pennington, CFO for the Federal Railroad Administration; and Gloria Shepherd, associate administrator for planning, environment and realty at the Federal Highway Administration. The women spoke on their journey to a rewarding career in transportation, including topics of work/life balance, honing in on strengths, taking risks, and overcoming obstacles.
