Due to the scale of urban projects and their ability to provide for their communities, the Conceptual - Urban Design category encourages entries that incorporate visionary approaches, ideas, and processes in design. Some entry examples include conceptual design for greenways, community gardens, linear parks, or neighborhood redevelopments.
In partnership with The Cultural Landscape Foundation (TCLF), the WLA's new Cultural Landscape Award will recognize holistic planning, design, and stewardship efforts to embrace historic and cultural systems in a project's immediate area. The TCLF and the WLA acknowledge that human involvement and occupation affects both the social and physical landscape of a community, creating cultural landscapes that safeguard and shape public memory. To that end, this award will highlight projects that preserve a landscape's authenticity while fostering a deeper understanding of the diverse voices in that community. Some entry examples include projects that address historical erasure, pro bono commitments, and innovative public engagement tools.
As with the existing WLA categories, these awards will ultimately showcase exceptional creativity, sustainability, and environmental impact.
Registration deadline is at 11:59AM on Saturday, March 23, Sydney, Australia Time (4:59PM PST or 7:79PM EST on Friday, March 22). More information can be found on the WLA website.
