Wisconsin Cities Promote LEED




Construction workers build a new campus center at Lawrence University in Wisconsin. The $32.8 million project is the largest built on campus and the general contractor on the project is seeking the project to be LEED certified in the silver class.

New buildings that focus on energy conservation, healthier interiors, minimal waste, natural light and water savings are dotting the Appleton, Wisc.-area landscape with increasing frequency. More keep popping up on drawing boards.

That firm along with The Boldt Co. of Appleton had a strong hand in raising the image of green building to a new level. Kubala Washatko designed the Aldo Leopold Legacy Center and Boldt was the construction manager for the new 12,000-square-foot visitor?EUR??,,????'?????<

The project, consisting of three compact structures, is Wisconsin?EUR??,,????'?????<

Sustainable elements are going into the 12,000-square-foot refurbishment of a space at City Center East in downtown Appleton to become the new headquarters for Hoffman LLC, a planning/architectural/construction management firm with a national reputation for sustainable building practices.

The $28 million project, which opened in fall 2006, was the first public school in the country to attain a LEED gold rating.

Hoffman said the day is coming when green elements to some degree will be mandated in every new building.
