A Fredrick Law Olmsted, Jr. Masterpiece

In 1923 Edward Bok asked Landscape Architect, Fredrick Law Olmsted, Jr., to transform Iron Mountain from a sandy hill (at 298 feet above sea level it is the highest point of land in peninsular Florida) covered with pines and scrub palmettos, into a santuary that would touch the soul with its beauty and quiet. Throughout the project both native and exotic plants thrive in the humid climate. The varying greens of the ferns and palms, oaks, pines, and rarer specimens make a serene background for the camellias, azaleas, gardenias, magnolias, and other flowering plants. All plant materials are clearly labeled and the garden walks takes about 45 minutes. All in all the Bok Tower Garden is a peaceful respite from the wonderful world of Disney, next time you're in Orlando. LASN
