This was a pool renovation that was an extensive make-over. The concept was to give the backyard an updated modern look that would complement the mid-century styling of the house. The owner was very involved with the planning and detailed design, and he dreamed of creating a beautiful space to showcase his outdoor sculptures and in turn, have the entire backyard be a work of art in itself.

The pool interior was modified to a more modern look with long steps on one end and a raised spa with 180-degree wet wall and sun shelf on the other. This created a great opportunity for the wall and background to take on a unique look and feature some elegant lighting.

Uplighting on the shelf was used on the spa along with lighted bubblers on the sun shelf. New colored LED pool lighting was placed symmetrically on both sides to reinforce the line-of-sight axis from the main house. The pool house is off to one side. The most challenging part was lighting of the new wall which features decorative tile inlays and valence lighting at the top of each of the wall features. Using stucco materials, we were able to create the niche that blended into the background seamlessly, for a stunning effect.
