WilsonMiller Inc. was awarded a contract for updates

HCC's new campus includes a LEED-compliant 57,000-square-foot building in Ruskin. HCC predicts it will spend about 24 percent less on energy costs for the green building than it would cost for a traditional building when the building open next year. Energy-saving features will include a rooftop basin to collect water, heating systems built into the floor, and a design that brings as much natural light as possible into the building.

The Tampa office of WilsonMiller Inc. was awarded a contract for updates of four campuses and a master plan for the Southshore Center of Hillsborough Community College.

Work is scheduled to be completed in June 2010. It includes landscape architecture, civil engineering, urban planning, geographic information systems and environmental analysis covering some wetland issues.

The value of the contract is $250,000. Urban Studio Architects, based in Tampa, is partnering on the project, a release said.

The updated comprehensive master plans will address new and renovated facilities, supporting infrastructure and external HCC coordination needs to accommodate projected student, staff and faculty growth as well as anticipated educational program changes, the release said.

Neale Stralow, project manager, and Michael English, vice president, at WilsonMiller will be leading the master planning effort in conjunction with HCC leadership.

WilsonMiller provided the previous master plans for four HCC campuses -- Dale Mabry Highway in Tampa, Ybor City, Brandon and Plant City -- in 2005.
