Louisiana Senate Bill 75, which has already cleared the state Senate, is now before the House. The bill would allow New Orleans voters to approve or reject the final version of the master plan after the city planning commission and the New Orleans City Council approve it.

House committee voted 9 to 7 on June 17, 2009 in favor of the legislation. It now goes before the full House.

Opponents say that when the voters approved the city charter amendment last year by a vote of 52 percent, it gave the master plan the force of law, and that it would be unconstitutional for the legislature to interfere with the city?EUR??,,????'?????<
