The Parks Issue of Landscape Architect & Specifier News saw many firms submit their projects for feature consideration. This project was not chosen for a Feature in the issue, but we at LandscapeArchitect.com thought the project deserved to be showcased online . . .
The Wild Walnut Park renovation is a transformative project for the City of Calabasas, enhancing the quality of life for families, children, and pets in the community. After years of planning and anticipation, the park was reimagined by JMD Landscape Architecture, Inc. with a host of new amenities that cater to a variety of recreational needs. One of the standout features is the new modern playground, designed specifically for children aged 2-12. This play area offers a safe and engaging environment for kids to explore, socialize, and stay active. The equipment is designed to be inclusive and developmentally appropriate, ensuring that children of all ages and abilities can enjoy the space.
For pet owners, the addition of expansive dog parks for both large and small dogs is a welcome improvement. These fenced areas provide a safe and fun space for dogs to run, play, and interact with other pets while offering peace of mind to their owners. The upgraded picnic areas invite families and friends to gather for outdoor meals and celebrations, further adding to the park's appeal. Additionally, the installation of modern restroom facilities enhances the park's convenience and accessibility, making it a comfortable and family-friendly destination for all visitors.
The park officially reopened on August 24, 2024.
