When in Wales

The Great Glasshouse at the National Botanic Garden of Wales was built in 2000 and houses plants from six areas of the world: California, Australia, the Canary Islands, Chile, South Africa and the Mediterranean basin. The Great Glasshouse is zoned to reflect this. Each of these geographical areas have regions that enjoy a Mediterranean climate.

The National Botanic Garden of Wales in Llanarthne, Carmarthenshire (gardenofwales.org.uk) combines history with the modern. It is situated on the site of an 18th-century landscape garden, but is juxtaposed with a 21st century greenhouse?EUR??,,????'?????<

Architect Norman Foster designed the elliptical structure and Kathryn Gustafson the interior. The botanic garden opened its doors to the public in May 2000, with a formal opening on July 21 of that year when HRH The Prince of Wales unveiled a slate plaque.

Working with the National Museum of Wales and the Countryside Council for Wales, the garden collects seeds and propagates some of Wales?EUR??,,????'?????< The garden?EUR??,,????'?????<
