Corps holds public hearing

NEW YORK, NY

The New York District of the Army Corps of Engineers held a public hearing recently regarding an application by Athens Generating Company, L.P. to build a 1,080 megawatt gas-fired electric generating plant in the Town of Athens, Greene County, New York.

The project would result in the loss of .95 acres of wetlands and temporarily impact 4.14 acres of waters of the United States. Construction of this power plant involves building an access road, administration building, warehouse, turbine building, cooling towers, storage areas and other associated features.

Approximately three miles of intake and discharge pipelines are proposed to be installed from the energy facility site to the Hudson River to draw between six and nine million gallons of water daily and to return approximately one to 1.5 million gallons of treated wastewater to the Hudson River each day.
