Wetland Protection Reinstated

WISCONSIN - In a special session of the Wisconsin legislature, both houses voted unanimously in support of a compromise wetland protection bill put forward by Gov. Scott McCallum.

The governor is expected to sign into law the measure which assigns permitting authority for isolated wetlands to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.

The compromise language of the bill, achieved after nearly four months of heated discussions and debates, was eventually crafted by a partnership of Wisconsin Wetlands Association and the Wisconsin Realtors Association. They worked with various legislators and the governor's staff during two weeks of daily negotiations.
