WaterSense Bills Introduced in the U.S. Senate

On Sept. 24, Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.), the Senate Majority Leader, introduced two water-use efficiency bills that primarily focus on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency?EUR??,,????'?????<

Bill S. 1711 would amend the Internal Revenue Code to provide tax incentives to consumers for making their homes more water-efficient through ?EUR??,,????'?????<

Once labeled, irrigation smart controllers would qualify for the program, along with services provided by IA-certified irrigation contractors, designers and auditors.

Tax incentives for WaterSense-labeled products and irrigation professional services are capped at $750 per year, with the incentive for purchasing a WaterSense-labeled new home capped at $1,500.

Bill S. 1712 authorizes federal funding for the WaterSense program to create a state-administered residential water efficiency and conservation incentives program. The grant would fund rebates to promote WaterSense-labeled new homes and products, including ?EUR??,,????'?????<
