Water Restrictions in Florida Continue

In Florida, low rainfall levels have caused river, surface and groundwater levels to drop in 16 counties, leading to a mandate from The Southwest Florida Water Management District to restrict lawn watering.

The restrictions will be in effect from Jan. 16 until July 31.

Hand watering or microirrigation of non-law landscape is allowed. Certain exemptions are available, such as new plant material.

Car washing is limited to once a week and fundraiser events are still allowed.

Fountains and other aesthetic water features may only operate eight hours a day.

Golf courses, agricultural operations and other water users are asked to comply with all water use permit conditions, including allowable drought quantities, and follow best management practices. Agricultural operations are asked to reduce off-site discharge and mobile equipment washing.

Properties under 2 acres may only water before 8 a.m. or after 6 p.m. Days for watering will be based on the last number of addresses. Those with addresses ending in 0 or 1 may only water on Monday. Those ending in 2 or 3, may water on Tuesday, Likewise, those ending in 4 or 5 may water on Wednesday, 6 or 7 on Thursday and 8 or 9 on Friday.
