Wastewater Reuse Predicted to Grow 61 Percent by 2025





Analyzing the current status of municipal utilities and their future plans indicates that 94 percent of the total growth in wastewater reuse over the next decade will take place in nine states.


A new focus report on wastewater reuse for municipal utilities in the U.S. forecasts that it will increase 61 percent by 2025, and will require $11 billion of expenditures to do so.

U.S. Municipal Wastewater & Reuse: Market Trends, Opportunities, & Forecasts, 2015-2025, comes from Bluefield Research, an independent advisory firm that provides research and analysis of water strategies and market trends. The report analyzes the U.S. municipal water industry, especially as it applies to wastewater reuse, which currently accounts for more than 8.3 million m3/d.

Based on the analysis of more than 3,000 existing wastewater treatment plants, over 700 operating wastewater reuse systems, and 247 reuse projects in various stages of planning, the report predicts that 94 percent of the activity will take place in nine states, with Florida and California leading the pack.
