War Memorial Tribute to WWII Soldiers INDIANAPOLIS, IN A World War II Memorial, built in Indianapolis, Indiana, has been dedicated to the sacrifice of Indiana soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines. Indianapolis has more military memorials in the United States except for Washington, D.C. Senator Robert Dole, a veteran who was injured in WWII, delivered the dedication speech to a crowd estimated at over 2,000. Designed by Landscape Architect Patrick Brunner, the monument is constructed with granite and limestone facing, with memorable quotations from Indiana soldiers. A 25-foot pylon in front of the arched rear wall lists the campaigns of the war. A granite and limestone shelter houses a computer with an interactive program to identify Indiana soldiers who served in the war. In addition, the memorial was constructed under a very strict timetable; in turn, the State of Indiana Department of Administration recognized general contractors Smock Fansler Corporation and the monument with a Time Management Award for "superior project management in completing this project ahead of schedule while overcoming significant constraints of time and weather."
