Wanton Damage of Landscape

When people who were students in the early 70s hear the name Kent State, it is impossible not to think about the Ohio National Guard shootings that killed four students on May 4, 1970.

These days, thankfully, the ?EUR??,,????'??killings?EUR??,,????'?? are relegated to campus tress. The campus prides itself on its tree canopy, but snapping of young trees and uprooting or trampling plants has left the grounds staff befuddled, disheartened and, no doubt, just plain angry.

Grounds Manager Heather White told campus reporter Kevin Kolus there have been many instances of ruined plants this semester. For Michael McDonald, director of campus environment and operations, who has been with the university for 30 years, such destruction is unknown on the campus.

Five-hundred dollars or more in damages to landscaping is a fourth-degree felony, which can result in at least a $750 and six months or more in jail.

It may pay to post such signs around your property.
