"Although the first quarter of 2015 saw slower wage growth in many industries compared to a year ago, growth is still in positive territory," said the head of the ADP Research Institute, the authors of the Workforce Vitality Index.

ADP's most recent Workforce Vitality Index, which measures the total wages paid to private workers in the U.S., showed that construction led all industries in wage growth year over year, but overall there was slower growth in the first quarter of 2015 than the final quarter of 2014.

In January, February and March of this year, the index was 3.7 percent above those months in 2014, however the final quarterly index of 2014 posted a 4.8 percent rise over 2013's final quarter.

Over the past year, construction grew 9.5 percent due, according to the index, to a combination of strong employment growth and an increase in wages. It was also noted however that workweek hours declined slightly in the industry.
