A doctor in the Century Oaks subdivision of North Barrington Village, Ill., one of 50 communities in Lake County just a half-hour commute north of Chicago, has been fined $49,050 for removing 40 trees from his property across the street from his home without obtaining permits nor filing a tree preservation plan, according to William Braithwaite, the attorney for the village.
The doctor received an additional $7,500 for violating the village watershed ordinance. The village ordinances have been in effect since 1991to preserve the area’s countryside and woods. Among the trees removed were eight oak trees and one cherry tree. The community was alerted to the tree removal from a call by a motorist who saw large tree trunks being hauled away.
