Vermont ASLA Chapter Offers Licensure Reminder

The Vermont Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects has issued a reminder to its members about licensure in the state.

In March, the State of Vermont gave notice that effective July 1, 2011, all practicing Landscape Architects must become licensed, 26 V.S.A, 2611, et seq.

There are essentially three ways to become licensed.

First, Landscape Architects can take the Landscape Architecture Registration Examination (LARE) that is administered across the US and Canada on dates established by the Council of Landscape Architectural Registration Boards (CLARB).

Second, if, on the other hand, a Landscape Architect has passed this exam in another state, he/she can apply for reciprocity.

Third, the Legislature created a transitional option for Vermont residents who have been engaged with the practice of Landscape Architecture in Vermont to become licensed without examination; considered the grand-father clause.

Under this option, only those applicants who can establish a record of landscape architecture practice for nine or more years may be eligible for licensure. This clause expires December 31, 2011.
