A Sky Garden will bridge the three hotel towers, just part of the Marina Bay Sands development in Singapore. And to think this was a fishing village when the British East India Co. colonized it in 1819.

For some, ?EUR??,,????'??Singapore?EUR??,,????'?? may bring to mind the silly escapades of Bob Hope and Bing Crosby romancing Dorothy Lamour in ?EUR??,,????'??Road to Singapore,?EUR??,,????'?? first of their road movies. That connection is amusing, not just for the film?EUR??,,????'???s humor, but because the movie has no connection what-so-ever with Singapore. It was shot on the Paramount lot, with the Los Angeles County Botanic Arboretum and Garden providing the exotic ?EUR??,,????'??Singapore?EUR??,,????'?? footage.

However you think of Singapore, it probably isn?EUR??,,????'???t the Marina Bay Sands development (Las Vegas Sands Corp.) underway in this smallest country of southeast Asia. The project won?EUR??,,????'???t be finished until 2009, but it?EUR??,,????'???s already being called a ?EUR??,,????'??new type of urban place.?EUR??,,????'?? The design integrates a one-million sq. ft. waterside promenade with three 50-story hotel towers (1,000 rooms each) bridged by a two-acre Sky Garden, offering 360-degree views of the city and the sea. Hotel amenities will include jogging paths, swimming pools, spas, and gardens. An Arts and Sciences Museum will be on the promontory. Don?EUR??,,????'???t forget the one-million sq. ft convention center, two 2,000-seat theaters, casino and a 4,000 car garage.

The architects for the marina project are Moshe Safdie and Associates and Aedas. The landscape architect is Peter Walker and Associates.
