Utah State University landscape architecture graduate student, Bailey Guinn, was awarded two scholarships.
Utah State University landscape architecture master's student, Bailey Guinn was awarded the JSR Foundation Scholarship and the BLT Built Design Award for her "Waking Water" project. The design project was developed with the goal to combat changes at the Warm Springs and North Gateway parks in Salt Lake City with a rich history dating back to 10,000 BCE.
The project focuses on water restoration and environmental park enhancement through research. Guinn is also working to developing programs that correlate with community traditions and practices.
The JSR Foundation, a part of the American Society of Landscape Architects - Colorado/Wyoming Chapter, is a foundation that recognizes and supports projects that are focused on conservation, sustainability, and natural environments. The scholarship will allow her to commute to the project site and spend time working on the spaces.
Further, the
BLT Built Design Awards, which Guinn was also awarded, is a program that "aims to celebrate projects, people, and their passion for the industry." The award encompasses "all forms of buildings, projects, and infrastructure that cope with the challenges of today's urbanization."
Guinn told Utah State TODAY that she has been inspired by people she has met while learning about their diverse needs.
The next step following these awards includes finalizing the designs of the plantings and the signage that will appropriately tells the story of the sites.
