WASHINGTON-USDA- APHIS has received requests from the Mexican government to allow importation of several plants.
Currently, no plants may be imported from Mexico in growing media due to plant pest concerns. APHIS scientists are initiating risk assessments for five genera: Bougainvillea, Codiaeum, Dracaena, Ficus, and Scindapsus. Dracaena is being studied first. The risk assessment examines which pests are present and might be expected to move with the subject commodity, and which are considered quarantine-significant for the U.S.
