Longtime Urban Land Institute (ULI) leader Robert Lieber, executive managing director of the Island Capital Group in New York City and the former deputy mayor for economic development in New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg's administration, has been selected to chair ULI New York. ULI New York serves about 2,000 members. Lieber will serve on a voluntary basis for a three-year term that begins July 1, 2013.

Lieber is a ULI trustee, member of the board of directors and a governor of the ULI Foundation, the philanthropic extension of ULI. His ULI volunteerism includes service on the advisory services panel, which assembles experts in real estate and land use planning to offer recommendations for planning and development projects, programs and policies.

In 2004, he served on an advisory services panel in Lower Manhattan that recommended the redevelopment of a retail corridor surrounding the World Trade Center. In 2005, Lieber was one of more than 50 ULI experts who served on an ULI advisory services panel to develop an overall rebuilding framework for New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina. He also traveled to Hong Kong in 2011 to serve on an advisory panel to develop a sustainable, high-quality urban environment at the former Kai Tak Airport and nearby Kowloon East area.

The Urban Land Institute (www.uli.org), established in 1936, is a nonprofit education and research institute supported by 30,000 members worldwide, representing all aspects of land use and development disciplines.
